I met Delmar in 1965 or 66. He and his family moved in 2 doors down from my family. We became friends rather quickly. Actually, Delmar would have graduated in 1970 but he dropped out of high school to join the Marines. He served 1 tour of duty in Nam and came home for his 30 days of R&R. We hung out together and much to my surprise, as well as his brother's surprise, he signed up for another tour of duty in Viet Nam. This was unfortunate for his family and friends. While on a patrol, he stepped on a mine and was killed. I still stay in touch with his younger brother's and his Mom. He was a real piece of work. He was the first person I knew who just loved Bob Dylan. He seemed to have all the ideas of a hippie from the time. Make Love. . ., not war. Then he joined the Marines. It just seemed so out of character for him. I think of him often. He had such a good sense of humor. I miss him but, I know he is in a better place.
