  In Memoriam

Phil Stedman was unique. He combined intelligence with an unbelievable sense of humor. He never took himself too serious as a teacher and realized that the learning process is a mutual path shared by both teacher and student. He was one of a kind.

I still remember a lot I learned from your class. You made me think and I tried harder for that. Thank you RIP

Economics a sleepy class, and on a day close to the end of My senior year, while others were taking tests, we told jokes for the entire hour. Laugh!!! We really did, and the joke I told was a pollock one: Why do pollocks use pyschodelic toliet paper? To fit in the groove. It was the only joke I could think of and I do not want to digrace any nationaliy. We just needed the laughter, Watergate was starting and it was a tense tine.

He used to use David Bleiweiss and I as examples in his class...when Kristee and Dave are buying Snickers candy bars....how many can they buy without messing up their budget.... I remember him always joking about his Volvo....The Swedish tractor.... He made a dry subject fun and one that most of us looked forward to taking quite simply because it was he who taught the subject.....

Thank you Mr Stedman, for trying to making Economics interesting and thank you for the one class period where we told jokes the whole time. We did alot of laughing out loud.

Mr. Stedman, I never got to truly thank you for the A in Consumer Skills. Although I earned it not by my check book balancing, but by doing your typing for you. I can still type, but I still can't balance my checkbook.

Mr. Stedman, thank you for being such a wonderful teacher and making consumer skills such an interesting class for us all! There is a funny story that still goes around about not buying the mattress with the stains on it!! Thanks for making us laugh! You are truly missed.

Mr. Stedman was a funny man. He made a boring subject like Economics seem not so boring. Mr Stedman, Mr Hoctor, and Mr. Scroggins and me and Richard Brawley went fishing in 1970. We had a great time. It was the first time I had ever hung out with teachers. It was a great time.
