  In Memoriam

Sorry you passed but now I am sure you have someone else to make fun of now...You hurt me many times by your hurtful words...But you didn`t care...I was the brunt of your jokes.

Kirby, It has been over a year since we lost you and I just hope that you are doing well in your new home. Today is your birthday and you would have been 60 years young. I still think about all the plans and dreams we had as kids growing up together in Westminster and I could not have chosen a better friend than you. I am going to have a couple of drinks today in your honor and toast your memory and all that you still mean to me. Your friend always, Steve Brhel

Kirby, It is still difficult to believe that you are really gone. You, Mark Small and I all met in 1962 in Mr. Kistler`s sixth grade class at James Irvine Junior High and our lives were never the same after that. I am pretty sure that you are standing at the edge of Heaven with Jesus and telling Him about all the dumb things that we did growing up together. You probably already have organized the weekly card games up there and are asking God if any of the girl angels are available. Kirby, we shared too many adventures to list but those are now treasured memories to me. I am not really sure how we drifted apart those last years but I always thought about you and you will forever be in my heart. Your true friend,.......Steve Brhel.

Kirby...We will miss you but memories of growing up together will last forever. I`ll always remember the crooked grin, surfer boy looks and how you, me and Steve Brhel would "find" smokes and head to the Rocket ship at the Brookhurst park. A few us (Steve, Ralph Sackett, maybe Louie and my brother Mike)are meeting in Oregon in late May and we`ll lift a toast to you Friend. Until we meet again Rest in Peace Mark

So sad to hear about this old neighborhood friend. One of my most vivid H.S.memories was of Kirby driving his mom`s car to school (he got his license first) and hitting a school bus while pulling into the parking lot. He didn`t think it was too funny but we sure did..... I lost touch after H.S. but never forgot our neighborhood group. May he rest in peace...

He was the best man at my wedding and the "fun" guy who helped me pass the years at La Quinta. We took our first salt tablets together - compliments of coach Michalik - after our first two-a-day. He was first with the girls - the details he would relay to the rest of us - wow! He taught me how to surf, drink (Red Mountain - under the bleachers and at Shakey`s), water ski, camp. Together we rescued his dad from a runaway boat (on a trailer going downhill). Scared the daylights out of me as he drove us around Bass Lake at 115 mph in the dead of night, in his parent`s buick - very fine stereo blasting away. He had the neighborhood pool and a trailer at the River. And, at about 14 yrs old, he drive us on a joy ride in my dad`s pick-up, stalled in the intersection and then stopped by a cop - who graciously walked away after watching us shake. I lost contact with him after HS, but based on these experiences I`m sure he enjoyed his life! :-)
