Thomas John Ghear died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, in Durango, Colo. He was 57. Tom was born July 3, 1952, in Santa Monica, Calif., the son of Charles and Charlotte Ghear. He grew up in Manhattan Beach, Calif., where he spent his youth surfing and living the California lifestyle. He attended La Quinta High School, where he enjoyed diving, swimming and surfing. Tom moved to Durango and made it his home in the early 1990s. Tom`s family described him as a free-spirited thrill seeker and adventurer, an authentic human being who was loyal to friends and family. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with Chris and his family, and most of all loved his daughter more than life itself. He started working in construction with his father and continued his love of building throughout his life. Tom was preceded in death by his father Chuck Ghear. He is survived by his daughter Danielle Ghear of Durango, girlfriend Chris Paloukos of Durango, mother Charlotte "Lottie" Ghear of Durango, brothe

Tom, I remember the years we spent on the swim team. Thank you for those times. Out of the fog of memories stands your name. I pray all was well for you.

I am shocked to hear the news of Tom`s passing. We dated in HS and I will always remember him coming over to our house on his Honda 350. Rest in peace.
